(LIMA) - The girls tennis season came to an end in Sectional play from the UNOH courts in Lima. Maggie Fett and both doubles squads came up one win short of qualifying to advance to Districts. Maggie Fett, Lucie Fett and Julianna Hotmire competed in singles while Justine Mitchell & Katie Wright and Brielle Hamilton & Sara Bertka took to the courts in doubles.
Maggie Fett got off to a great start, dispatching Ottawa Glandorf's Mariah Schroeder 6-0, 6-0. Fett then defeated Shawnee's Whitney Baxter 6-1, 6-2. Maggie put up a great fight against Spencerville's Kaylee Davis before falling 6-3, 6-7 (7-5), 6-2. Davis would go on to not only qualify for districts but also for the State Meet.
Julianna Hotmire got by Bath's Kylee Morris 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) in first round action. In the second round, Julianna fell to Wapakoneta's McKayla Schroeder by a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) count.
Lucie Fett crushed Kenton's Abby Hartshorn 6-0, 6-0 to open her day. Shawnee's Nkiru Anigbogu ended Lucie's run with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Anigbogu would go on to qualify for the District Meet.
Brielle Hamilton & Sara Bertka got by Bath's Truman & Hillborn 6-2, 6-4 to open their run. Next, they had to come back from dropping the first set to defeat Van Wert's Trittschuch & Eutsler 3-6, 6-0, 7-5. Shawnee's Avvari & Chanamolu ended the Bluffton duo's day with a 6-4, 6-1 defeat.
Justine Mitchell & Katie Wright got a first round bye before winning their opening match 6-2, 6-3 over Bath's Carman & Stechschulte. Eventual Sectional champions Lee & Watt from Wapakoneta defeated Mitchell & Wright 6-1, 6-3. Lee & Watt would go on to qualify for the State Meet.
