(MIDDLE POINT) - In a year of tight baseball games, it was fitting the last one went down to the eighth inning. The host Lancers were able to fight through the rain and take a 3-2 victory and ended Bluffton's season at 7-9.
Lincolnview scored two unearned runs in the second inning and led 2-0 until the top of the seventh inning. Then Kyle Swank was hit by a pitch followed by a Brice Rayle single. Two errors later, the Pirates had tied the score at 2-2 and sent the game into extra innings.
The Pirates were not able to score in the top half of the frame. The Lancers started off the bottom half of the inning with a walk and a single. After a groundball putout, the Pirates intentionally walked the Lancers' best hitter, Ethan Parsons, to load the bases. At that point, Keli Ralston scored on a suicide squeeze bunt to win the game.
The game was the final one for Pirate seniors Joe Schriner, Kyle Swank and Tyler McLaughlin.
